A New Day from Heaven
Luke 1:78,79 With the loving mercy of our God, a new day from heaven will shine on us. It will bring light to those who live in darkness, in the fear of death. It will guide us into the way that brings peace.
With all the ups and downs we’ve been through over these past months – disruption and turmoil the likes of which most of us haven’t seen in our lifetime – the old, old story of Jesus can feel … what shall we say … less and less relevant.
It’s true. For many, making the connection between the Jesus story and the realities of life isn’t easy. The realities of life seem to take over; the immediacy of the pressures we face, the turmoil we see on a global scale, seem to dominate our thinking more and more.
As the darkness closes in on us … well, you know how it is. Jesus? What possible relevance can that story, that Person, have in the midst of what you’re going through today, hmm?
Not long before He was born, a man called Zechariah (John the Baptist’s dad) made this prophecy, this prediction, about this Jesus:
Luke 1:78,79 With the loving mercy of our God, a new day from heaven will shine on us. It will bring light to those who live in darkness, in the fear of death. It will guide us into the way that brings peace.
Yeah, there’s been a lot of darkness around these past months. And for many, the fear of death has been all too real. And isn’t it amazing how that pressure produced turmoil across the globe? (Although we shouldn’t be at all surprised!)
And into that reality, into our reality, God speaks His loving mercy – a mercy that comes from deep within His great and mighty heart. Into that reality, through Jesus, God wants to shine a new day into our lives. Into the darkness, Jesus shines as a light. Amidst the turmoil, Jesus guides us into His peace.
So in your darkness, in your fear, in your turmoil, Jesus is the answer. Jesus.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
