A Stress Free Life?
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest. Accept my teaching. Learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will be able to get some rest. Yes, the teaching that I ask you to accept is easy. The load I give you to carry is light.
One of the symptoms of this crazy, chaotic, connected world in which we live, is stress. In fact, stress is on the rise, to the point where over half of all visits to a local doctor, are now stress-related. Over half!
Wouldn’t you just love to live life on a beach somewhere with not a care in the world, great weather every day, no money problems, no health worries, no relationship issues – just a totally stress-free existence every day of the week? Fantastic – but life’s not like that.
Now it turns out that some stress isn’t such a bad thing. The nervous energy that pole vaulters harnesses in an Olympic competition just before the jump, I imagine, is vital in helping them clear that bar.
But some people live in a constant state of stress. It’s like a chronic disease. They’re always stressed over something. Other times, things happen that are completely outside our control. Jesus was put under pressure – there in the garden of Gethsemane, you can hear the stress in His words at one point. So He totally gets it.
If only there were some way of lightening the load just a bit. If only there were someone who could help. It turns out that there is:
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest. Accept my teaching. Learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will be able to get some rest. Yes, the teaching that I ask you to accept is easy. The load I give you to carry is light.
You don’t have to carry your burdens on your own. Jesus is right here with you. Instead of stressing, you can lean into Him. He totally gets it.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
