Are You Wilting?

Isaiah 58:11 The LORD will always lead you and satisfy your needs in dry lands. He will give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring that never goes dry.

It’s a sad thing to see a beautiful pot plant wilting, drooping, dying, because someone forgot to water it. It’s even sadder still to see a person whose life looks a lot like that wilting pot plant.

I have a confession to make. There have been times when the pot plants on my apartment balcony have been wilting because yours truly forgot to water them. The sun beats down, the soil dries out, and they start to die.

And I know that there are some people who feel as though their lives fit that picture pretty darned well. There are times in our walk with Jesus when He seems to take a step back and we feel all alone. It feels like, instead of that vibrant, abundant life that He promised, well … it feels like we’re dying.

Just in case you ever find yourself in that place, I want to share a Word with you today. A promise from God that you can depend on … because right in that place, He wants you (and me) to learn to trust in His Word, and to trust in Him. Are you ready? Here it is:

Isaiah 58:11 The LORD will always lead you and satisfy your needs in dry lands. He will give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring that never goes dry.

Would you please notice that word “always”? Other translations say “continually” – in other words, without ceasing, without ever giving up on you, without ever deserting you. “I will never leave you or forsake you” is as true today as when Jesus first said it.

So how do you get that living water? Where do you find that strength for your bones? Draw close to Jesus.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
