Blind Faith
Luke 17:5,6 The apostles said to the Lord, “Give us more faith!” The Lord said, “If your faith is as big as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Dig yourself up and plant yourself in the ocean!’ And the tree will obey you.”
Many people think that believing in God, following Jesus, is all about blind faith. In any case, who has enough faith to do the things that this radical Jesus is calling you to do. No, much better to play it safe, don’t you think?
Have you ever invested in the stock market? Most people don’t. It’s not the money so much, it’s the risk. Sure, in the long run the share market almost always outperforms every other form of investment. But in the short term … well, it can be risky.
Some people see God a bit that way. In the long run, do you want to go to Heaven? Sure you do. But in the short term, it’s a bit risky. Blind faith. I mean, if I put God in control of my life, how is it going to end up? What’s He going to make me do?
Scary stuff, putting God in control – and so a lot of people don’t. They shy away. In their heart of hearts, they’ve convinced themselves that they simply don’t have enough faith to live that sort of a life. Sound familiar?
But the thing that we so easily miss is that God is a God that can be trusted. And, as things turn out, we don’t have to have a massive amount of faith to get going.
Luke 17:5,6 The apostles said to the Lord, “Give us more faith!” The Lord said, “If your faith is as big as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Dig yourself up and plant yourself in the ocean!’ And the tree will obey you.”
It turns out that just the smallest amount of faith is enough to get going. And at the end of the day, Jesus outperforms any other kind of life’s investment that you can possibly make.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
