Blood is Thicker than Water

1 Timothy 5:8 Everyone should take care of all their own people. Most important, they should take care of their own family. If they do not do that, then they do not accept what we believe. They are worse than someone who does not even believe in God.

Families are something that, all too often, we take for granted. Perhaps that’s why so many of them are falling apart these days.

I was really convicted by something I read in the Bible the other morning, early. Have a listen to this:

1 Timothy 5:8 Everyone should take care of all their own people. Most important, they should take care of their own family. If they do not do that, then they do not accept what we believe. They are worse than someone who does not even believe in God.

It’s so easy to be so busy – and most people are – to be racing around doing this and doing that, to be focussed on all these good things that we can be doing and to forget that we have a family.

Not just wives and husbands and kids, but older parents, perhaps a single sister or brother.

It really hit me between the eyes, that families are God’s idea. Families are small units where blood is supposed to run thicker than water. Families are supposed to look after one another. That’s God’s plan. Sobering, huh?!

So can I encourage you, whatever your life looks like, busy or bored, tired or tremendous, whatever your journey looks like, make time to care for your family. Especially those who may not have what you have, be as fortunate, be as blessed, as you are.

How we, as believers, care for our family members says a lot – an awful lot – both to them and to the rest of the world, about our faith in Jesus.

Most important, they should take care of their own family. If they do not do that, then they do not accept what we believe.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

God has so much love and wisdom to speak into our families, into our relationships and into all the other things that we go through in life.

Just listened to fresh for today after getting in from seeing my frail elderly mother in her care home. That’s when you realise how God’s timing is perfect. Family! Perfect. Thank you for your words every day, “Fresh” every day.
