Bridging the Gap

Proverbs 17:24 Intelligent people think about what needs to be done here and now. Fools are always dreaming about faraway places.

One day … yep, one day God is going to do a powerful work through me. One day, He’s going to send me here or there to do this or that. Amazing. I can’t wait. One day …

Have you ever had it in your heart to impact this world for Christ –  to be used powerfully of God to do some mighty work that’ll take people’s breath away?

I sure remember dreaming those dreams and that’s a good thing, up to a point. We should dream big dreams. After all, we serve a big God, amen?

But there’s a gap, a rather large one, more of a yawning chasm actually, between dreaming dreams on the one hand, and seeing them turn into reality on the other. It’s a gap that many of Christ’s followers never seem to bridge. They just keep on dreaming, and eventually those dreams grow old, they go stale, and then they fade away. Here’s why:

Proverbs 17:24 Intelligent people think about what needs to be done here and now. Fools are always dreaming about faraway places.

If you want your dreams to turn into reality eventually, you need to think about the here and now, and what needs to be done. What bit do I have to do? What other people with different God-given gifts and abilities do I need to surround myself with? How are we going to resource this thing? How do we get it started?

By all means we should do all that in prayer and godly wisdom. But it’s no good imagining that God will take you to the ends of the earth if you don’t apply His wisdom to what needs to be done in the here and now.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
