Deep Foundations

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my Rock, my fortress, my place of safety. He is my God, the Rock I run to for protection. He is my shield; by his power I am saved. He is my hiding place high in the hills.

One of the biggest mistakes that we can ever make is to imagine that we can build a good life without strong foundations. Many try … as though a structure without solid foundations would ever last!

Today’s Fresh devotion is being read, listened to, and watched all around the world in many different languages. But wherever you happen to live, the Sydney Harbour Bridge just a few kilometres from where I live, is one of those landmarks that’s recognised the world over.

I recently had a friend visiting from the US, so I took him for a walk under the Bridge to see it from an angle, from a perspective, that most people never get to see it from.

And I have to tell you, from down there, it is huge: 52,800 tonnes of steel, held together by 6 million rivets, covered in 272,000 litres (that’s 60,000 gallons) of paint and carrying around 200,000 vehicles each day … the Bridge’s massive foundations reach deep down into solid rock to support the load.

And when you think about it, there’s quite a load on your life and mine too. Think of the things that you go through, the heavy burdens you have to bear, the chaotic traffic that you deal with in your life day-to-day. Without strong foundations reaching down into solid rock, it’ll eventually all come crashing down. And sadly, that’s the reality for many a person.

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my Rock, my fortress, my place of safety. He is my God, the Rock I run to for protection. He is my shield; by his power I am saved. He is my hiding place high in the hills.

Set your foundations in the right place, on solid rock, and build them strong. Let the Lord be your Rock.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
