Do You Know Him?

Psalm 103:15,16 He knows our lives are short, that they are like grass. He knows we are like a little wildflower that grows so quickly, but when the hot wind blows, it dies. Soon, you cannot even see where the flower was.

We tend to live this life as though it’s going to go on forever. But it isn’t. We know that. And yet, still we think and behave as though it will. So, when it is over, when it’s all done and dusted, then what?

The world over, people love their sport. Pretty much every country has one particular sport that people are crazy about. Across Africa, South America and Europe it’s football. Throughout the old British Commonwealth nations, it’s cricket. Go to the US and it’s baseball, or gridiron, or basketball.

And isn’t it amazing just how much we worship our sports men and women? And yet, just a season or two later, those same players we idolised end up as forgotten nobodies as we move on to the next crop of stars.

So can I ask you, who or what do you worship?

Is it about people or things that are here today and gone tomorrow? Or do you bow your life down to something or someone eternal; someone who loves you with the most amazing love; someone who cares about even the smallest details of your life?

Psalm 103:15,16 He knows our lives are short, that they are like grass. He knows we are like a little wildflower that grows so quickly, but when the hot wind blows, it dies. Soon, you cannot even see where the flower was.

Like it or not, your life and mine are about as fleeting as the brief stardom of our greatest sporting stars – here today and gone tomorrow.

And when this life is gone, the only thing that will matter is the answer to this question: Do you know Jesus? This Jesus who heals the lepers, who loves the poor, who died for you and me, who rose again, who aches for you. Do you know Him?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
