Don’t Kid Yourself
Romans 14:9-12 That is why Christ died and rose from death to live again—so that he could be Lord over those who have died and those who are living. So why do you judge your brother or sister in Christ? Or why do you think that you are better than they are? We will all stand before God, and he will judge us all. Yes, the Scriptures say, “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘Everyone will bow before me; everyone will say that I am God.’” So each of us will have to explain to God about the things we do.
There’s a risk (rather a large one actually) that the more we grow in maturity in our relationship with Jesus, the more His commands rule in our heart, the more we can get to feeling … well, rather superior to everyone else.
It’s one of life’s great paradoxes. Christ calls us to humility; to take up our cross and follow Him wherever He may lead, whatever it may cost, which is precisely what He did when He laid down His life for you and for me.
So, you’ve been walking with Jesus for a while now and you’re starting to get the hang of it. Yep, it fits rather well. this Christ-suit in which you’ve clothed yourself … just as the Scriptures say you should.
I’m doing this whole Christian-thingy pretty well. I’ve nailed it! And would you look at that woman who just walked into church late. Didn’t even comb her hair properly. Seriously! She needs to get with the program.
Time for a reality check:
Romans 14:9-12 That is why Christ died and rose from death to live again—so that he could be Lord over those who have died and those who are living. So why do you judge your brother or sister in Christ? Or why do you think that you are better than they are? We will all stand before God, and he will judge us all. Yes, the Scriptures say, “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘Everyone will bow before me; everyone will say that I am God.’” So each of us will have to explain to God about the things we do.
Do you really want to explain your pride, your sense of superiority, to the Lord on that day? Really?!
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
