Faith is a Funny Thing

Hebrews 11:6 Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who sincerely try to find him.

Wow … we Christians, we love saying things like “I walk by faith, not by sight”, until of course the things that we see are scary. Then we’re reduced to a whimpering, quivering mess. So when things get scary, what happens to your faith?

Here’s a transcript of something I recorded on location in Canada a few years back:

I’m coming to you live from the CN Tower in Toronto … standing on a glass floor 342 metres above the pavement below. I’m looking down through my feet and I can see some birds way, way down at the bottom of the tower, flying. It is the most amazing feeling standing here on a glass floor.

It took me a long time to work up the courage to walk out here and even now as I stand here, I can tell you honestly, I am shaking. This is a really scary thing to do. That first step onto the glass floor took an enormous amount of courage. But now that I’ve been out here for a while, it’s not that bad!

Strange, isn’t it, because that glass floor was engineered to be five times stronger than the concrete floor? But from where I stood, it was still scary.

Maybe that’s why it’s so difficult sometimes to step out and trust God. But …

Hebrews 11:6 Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who sincerely try to find him.

Faith’s a funny thing. When you step out in faith, it feels as though you’re putting your life at risk. But the truth is that it’s much safer out there on the glass floor of faith than it ever was back in your comfort zone.

Without faith, you cannot please God.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
