Freedom from Sin

Titus 2:11-14 … God’s grace has come. That grace can save everyone. It teaches us not to live against God and not to do the bad things the world wants to do. It teaches us to live on earth now in a wise and right way—a way that shows true devotion to God. We should live like that while we are waiting for the coming of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ. He is our great hope, and he will come with glory. He gave himself for us. He died to free us from all evil. He died to make us pure—people who belong only to him and who always want to do good.

There’s a real risk, I think, that we can mistake what God’s grace is all about – that we kind of put a fence around it in our hearts and in our minds … in our lives, to empty it of its life-changing power.

The way we all too often limit the power of God’s grace in our lives is by believing that its main and only purpose is to open up God’s forgiveness to us. But that simply isn’t true.

Of course God’s grace leads to our forgiveness when we put our trust in Jesus, who paid the price of our sin on that brutal cross. But there’s so much more. Let’s take a look:

Titus 2:11-14 … God’s grace has come. That grace can save everyone. It teaches us not to live against God and not to do the bad things the world wants to do. It teaches us to live on earth now in a wise and right way—a way that shows true devotion to God. We should live like that while we are waiting for the coming of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ. He is our great hope, and he will come with glory. He gave himself for us. He died to free us from all evil. He died to make us pure—people who belong only to him and who always want to do good.

Did you get that? Yes, we’re saved through God’s grace. No argument about that. But grace also teaches us how to live in wisdom, in a right way, with true devotion to God. God’s grace is the power to transform our lives. Grace doesn’t just forgive you from sin, it frees you from sin. That’s life-changing.

And that’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
