Hang On For the Ride
Philippians 1:6 I am sure that the good work God began in you will continue until he completes it on the day when Jesus Christ comes again.
Life sometimes seems a bit like a rollercoaster ride … up and down, up and down. Sure, sometimes things go along on an even keel for a while but then, without warning … up and down. It makes you wonder what God is up to!
Now, while Jesus never promised this, we do harbour a bit of a feeling that we’re special; that God should give us an easier ride than everyone else.
I get up every morning and do my best. Surely God sees that. Surely Lord – nudge, wink – you’ll make things a bit easier for ME!
Not true. Never has been. Never will be. But that doesn’t stop us from harbouring the desire for an easier ride deep inside a secret enclave of our hearts. So, just a word of encouragement for you for when the going does get tough, for when your faith-walk (whatever that is, anyway!) looks in doubt or in peril.
Philippians 1:6 I am sure that the good work God began in you will continue until he completes it on the day when Jesus Christ comes again.
God hasn’t fallen off His twig. He hasn’t lost the plot. He hasn’t forgotten you. He hasn’t left you on the scrap heap. No, not at all!
He began a good work in you, and He will finish it. Yes, sometimes He takes us via the scenic route through the wilderness. Sometimes He takes a step back to let us figure things out. Sometimes we feel all alone.
And it’s in those alone moments in the wilderness that we have the opportunity either to believe in our circumstances or in God. As for me, let me encourage you today, because …
I am sure that the good work God began in you will continue until he completes it on the day when Jesus Christ comes again.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
