Hearing God Speak
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by God. And all Scripture is useful for teaching and for showing people what is wrong in their lives. It is useful for correcting faults and teaching the right way to live. Using the Scriptures, those who serve God will be prepared and will have everything they need to do every good work.
May I ask you? Do you yearn to be close to Jesus? Do you yearn to hear Him speak directly into your life? Then today’s message is for you.
People often ask me, “Berni, how can I hear God speak to me?” It’s a really common question and it’s the right question. People yearn not just to read about Him or hear about Him, they want to know Him for themselves, in their own experience. That’s a good thing.
So, whenever I get that question, the first thing I always do, is to ask them, “How often do you read your Bible?” What almost always follows, is an embarrassed silence.
You may have heard me say this before, but let me say it again, the idea of reading this Bible thing used to be such a turn-off for me. But when I was young in my faith, a dear friend and my pastor, Phil, convinced me that spending time in God’s Word was an essential daily habit. He was a good guy, he was nice to me … so I humoured him.
That almost a quarter of a century ago, and I’m still reading it almost every day. And that one thing, more than any other, is what’s changed my life. Because through it, through the Bible, through God’s living Word, God speaks. And as a result, I don’t just know about God, I know God.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
