His Abundance

John 7:38 If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from their heart. That is what the Scriptures say.

A question for you today: on balance, are you a person who’s filled with the joy of the Lord, or are you miserable, negative and fearful?

It bothers me greatly to see Christians living miserable lives. That’s not to say that we should all be on “cloud nine” all the time or that we don’t go through difficult times. Of course we do!

But I know “Christians” who’ve gone to church all their lives and yet are still miserable, negative, fearful … really are not very nice people to be around. And the only way that can go on, is if you do the “religion” thing, without ever having a personal relationship with Jesus; without ever letting the good news of God’s grace and mercy turn your life upside down.

Because that one-on-one relationship with the Creator of the Universe … it changes you. It has to! You can’t help it.

You can be feeling under pressure, afraid, angry, and then you go and spend some time alone with God, and just as He promises, His peace ends up guarding your heart and mind and setting you free.

And when you do that often enough, when you lean into Him, when you trust your life into His hands, when you’ve experienced His faithfulness firsthand, over and over again, it’s something that you just can’t contain.

John 7:38 If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from their heart. That is what the Scriptures say.

I’ve seen it so often in Christians whom I respect and admire. Their deep, personal relationship with Jesus, ends up overflowing out of them, as S.D. Gordon puts it, like a floodtide of blessing into the parched, dry land around them.

That’s how it’s meant to be.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
