I Have Only You
Psalm 73:25,26 In heaven, God, I have only you. And if I am with you, what on earth could I want? Maybe my mind and body will become weak, but God is my source of strength. He is mine forever!
So let me ask you today, what’s at the top of your prayer list? What are the top three things that you want to ask God to give you? Perhaps health, or financial security, or a better marriage. What are numbers one, two and three on your list?
Here at Christianityworks we have a website called PowerfulPrayer.org. Why “powerful prayer”? Because the only sort of prayer the Bible teaches about is the sort that has powerful results. True! So countless people from across the globe post their prayer requests, and then others volunteer to receive a weekly email to pray for however many people they nominated. Check it out … PowerfulPrayer.org.
Now, as you can imagine, we see all sorts of prayer requests. And some of the stuff going on in people’s lives is truly tragic – marital infidelity, broken families, wars, life-threatening illnesses. I find it such a privilege to pray for people and leave them an encouraging word. And it’s right that we should do that.
But there’s one prayer request that we see only now and then. It goes like this: I want more of God. I want to draw closer to Jesus. Why is that prayer request so rare? Writes the psalmist:
Psalm 73:25,26 In heaven, God, I have only you. And if I am with you, what on earth could I want? Maybe my mind and body will become weak, but God is my source of strength. He is mine forever!
Yes, pray for your needs here on earth. Absolutely! But everything in our lives will one day pass away. Our mind and body will grow weak.
But God – in Heaven, I have only You. But God … you are my source of strength forever. Lord, I yearn for you. Lord, draw me close. Lord give me more of you!
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
