Inferiority Complex
1 Corinthians 15:9,10 All the other apostles are greater than I am. I say this because I persecuted the church of God. That is why I am not even good enough to be called an apostle. But, because of God’s grace, that is what I am. And his grace that he gave me was not wasted. I worked harder than all the other apostles. (But I was not really the one working. It was God’s grace that was with me.)
I remember when I finally became a Christian at age thirty-six, after leading a very self-centred life, I felt so inferior to all these holier-than-thou Christians around me. I wonder … have you ever felt that way?
You know how it is … you look at the people around you and compare yourself to them. And okay, some of them are lunatics, but so many others seem so much nicer, smarter, better than us. It can be downright depressing some days.
And then, just to make things worse, someone like me comes along talking about Jesus’ resurrection and the free gift of eternal life for those who believe in Him. But …
Am I good enough? Really? Perhaps not!
The Apostle Paul answers that very question while talking about Jesus’ resurrection and how one day those who believe in Him will rise again for eternity. Here it is:
1 Corinthians 15:9,10 All the other apostles are greater than I am. I say this because I persecuted the church of God. That is why I am not even good enough to be called an apostle. But, because of God’s grace, that is what I am. And his grace that he gave me was not wasted. I worked harder than all the other apostles. (But I was not really the one working. It was God’s grace that was with me.)
Paul persecuted Christians! He was the worst of the worst, the least of the least. And yet here we are, two thousand years on, still reading what he wrote.
When you believe in Jesus, you have an eternal future. Nothing in your past can rob you of that. So let’s get a revelation. It’s time to ditch that inferiority complex, amen?!
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
