Comprehending Grace
Luke 2:17-19 When they saw the baby, they told what the angels said about this child. Everyone was surprised when they heard what the shepherds told them. Mary continued to think about these things, trying to understand them.
It’s one thing to have a spectacular “come to Jesus” moment. And if that happened to you, as it did to me many years ago … fantastic. But it’s another thing entirely to figure out what it all means.
Over these last few days, we’ve been spending time with those shepherds tending their flocks after a hard day at the office, when a spectacular light-show hit the sky – hosts of angels singing hosanna in the highest … can you imagine? And we saw how they reacted.
They ran … ran … to find Jesus lying there in that messy manger just as the angels had told them. So, as they burst in on the stable scene huffing and puffing, Mary and Joseph must have been wondering ‘what’s this all about?’ What are these guys doing here? Why are they so excited? Time to explain.
Luke 2:17-19 When they saw the baby, they told what the angels said about this child. Everyone was surprised when they heard what the shepherds told them. Mary continued to think about these things, trying to understand them.
You can imagine. Mary’s just given birth … pain, mess. She’s recovering. Joseph’s looking after them – and then this incredible news of what the angels did and said. Now Mary already knew that this baby was special. But this next revelation gave her something to think about. So …
Mary continued to think about these things, trying to understand them.
Wrapping your heart around the grace of God for you in Jesus Christ isn’t a five-minute job. It’ll take a lifetime and beyond to comprehend the enormity of God’s grace for you. Don’t stop thinking about these things. Don’t stop trying to understand them.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
