Listen and Learn
Nehemiah 8:7-9 … the Levites helped the people to understand the Law, while the people remained in their places. They read the Book of the Law of God. They made it easy to understand and explained what it meant. They did this so that the people could understand what was being read … all the people had begun to cry as they were listening to the messages of God in the law.
Preachers, in today’s contemporary culture, get a bit of a bad rap. And to be sure, there are some out there who should be locked up, seriously! But down through the ages, time and time again, God has used preaching to radically transform people’s lives.
God wants to unleash His power into your life. And one of the ways He does that is when you hear His Word being proclaimed, being preached, and accept it into your heart.
But preaching is so yesteryear isn’t it? I mean, let’s all just sing songs, listen to music, be entertained, watch movies. But preaching … who wants to be preached at in this day and age?
The problem with that though is that music and entertainment, by and large, don’t transform lives. Now there’s nothing wrong with good entertainment, and there’s definitely nothing wrong with worshipping God in song – not at all.
But if you truly want to see your life transformed by this radical, edgy, unconventional, countercultural Jesus, you need to hear Him out. One way is to read the Bible. Brilliant. The other way is to hear someone unpack the Bible, bring meaning to it and make it relevant to the crazy mixed up world in which we live in. And that, my friend, is what you call Spirit-led, God-ordained, biblically faithful, life-relevant preaching.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
