No Prizes for Guessing
Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust the Lord completely, and don’t depend on your own knowledge. With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way.
Question: what do you do, when you’re confronted with a problem that’s so big and ugly and complicated, that you know you just can’t figure it out for yourself? Well, what do you do?
Have you ever noticed how confusing life can be? You want it to be predictable. You expect people to behave rationally and for everything to make sense. You want things to turn out the way they should.
But that’s not how life is.
Look, I’m one of these guys who likes to figure everything out and sometimes, I can. Sometimes a problem comes my way and I sit down and think it through, rationally, unemotionally, and the answer just pops. It’s great when that happens.
But other times, no amount of thinking it through seems to work. I want to rely on my own knowledge and understanding, but my ability to nut it out, simply isn’t enough.
At that point, you find yourself with basically two choices. You can either panic, or trust in God. You can either run around like a chicken with its head cut off, behaving badly, or just keep on honouring God and trusting in Him and trusting that He knows what He’s doing and that He’s capable of working it out.
Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust the Lord completely, and don’t depend on your own knowledge. With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way.
When that problem is too big for you, when the panic’s about to set in, that’s the very time to start feeling comfortable with the fact that you can’t figure it out. It’s the very time to begin resting in the fact, that the Lord is more than capable of getting you through.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
