Seeking Grace
Luke 2:16 So they went running and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the feeding box.
Christmas is a special time … a very special time. But it’s also a time when complacency sets in. Let’s face it, we’ve all done Christmas so many times that it’s hard to get excited.
It’s true. For many (even Christians) Christmas represents little more than a break from the rat race, a few days of downtime. Look, we know the theory – Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem because there was no room at the inn. He’s our Saviour … and on it goes. We know all that. So let’s not get too excited. Just take a break, have a rest, eat a whopping great Christmas dinner.
Can I ask you quietly but very directly today, is that all that Christmas has become to you?
We’ve been chatting these last couple of days about the grace of God in sending Jesus into this world – those shepherds in the field who encountered a host of angels in the sky singing Hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
Pretty exciting stuff amidst their mundane, subsistence-level lives. After they overcame the shock, how did they react? What did they do with this good news?
Luke 2:16 So they went running and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the feeding box.
Those shepherds ran towards God’s grace. Their Messiah had been born. And they ran! Such was the impact of the Good News on their hearts. And they found their Saviour lying there in a messy, smelly, dirty manger – the entry point of God’s incompressible grace toward mankind, toward you and me. Jesus in a feeding trough.
So don’t just sit there in your mundane old field. Get up. Run. Run towards God’s incomprehensible grace for you. Jesus.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
