Stop Being a Wimp
Ephesians 3:11-12 This agrees with the plan God had since the beginning of time. He did what he planned, and he did it through Christ Jesus our Lord. In Christ we come before God with freedom and without fear. We can do this because of our faith in Christ.
Have you ever felt reticent to go to God with your problems? Perhaps you just made a hash of things and you’re looking at the mess you created and thinking, I can’t go to God with this!
Ever since Adam and Eve tried to hide from God after they’d disobeyed Him, the notion that God may not have noticed has been completely crazy right? God knows all things for all time, and there’s not a single thing that escapes His attention.
And yet, stupidly, we still behave like wimps. We’re afraid to go to Him and say Lord, I’ve made a hash of this. I know I shouldn’t have and I’m sorry, but now … I need your help.
Think about this. The reason our sin always comes with consequences, with pain attached, is so that like the prodigal son, we’ll eventually come to our senses and turn back to God. Here it is:
This agrees with the plan God had since the beginning of time. He did what he planned, and he did it through Christ Jesus our Lord. In Christ we come before God with freedom and without fear. We can do this because of our faith in Christ. (Ephesians 3:11-12)
When we’ve made a hash of things, you and I, when we’ve sinned, the natural response is to do what Adam and Eve did, to run and hide. To try to avoid God. We do it out of shame and fear, just as they did. But still today, just as it was back then, it’s crazy, right? Because (a) God’s already noticed and (b) more importantly, through Jesus – through His suffering on that Cross where He’s already paid for our sin. God’s grace is so reliable that He calls us to come to Him in freedom and without fear.
Why? Not because we’re so fantastic, but because of our faith in Christ.
Hiding from God when we’ve sinned is just stupid. What benefit do we gain from doing that? Answer: none! All we get is more grief. All we get is more pain through the disruption of our close fellowship with God, when all the time, the way is open to return to Him in freedom and without fear.
The bottom line? Keep short accounts with God. Don’t wait. Turn back to Him in freedom and without fear. Now.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
