The Communication Gap

Psalm 46:8-11 Come, behold the works of the Lord; see what desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.” The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

As time goes on, more and more people, have less and less peace and joy in their lives. More and more, lives are marked by frenzied activity, less and less, by quiet contemplation. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

It seems that the more technology we get into our hands, the less we seem to communicate on a meaningful level. Have you noticed?

I saw a great cartoon recently of a man’s funeral. Hardly anyone had shown up and there were lots of empty seats. One funeral director says to the other: I would have thought there would be more people here. He had over 2,000 friends on Facebook. It’s true isn’t it?

And have you noticed how easy it is to get distracted when you have a plan to spend a bit of time with God? – social media, the news, just bumping around the internet, this, that, the other thing. And before you know it, your day’s off and running but you haven’t spent that quiet time with God. You’ve missed out on hearing Him speak. You’ve missed out on that peace; that deep, quiet joy that comes from spending fifteen, twenty minutes, half an hour of unhurried time just with Him – at which point, your day starts to fall apart.

So here it is again, in case you missed it: Be still and know that I am God.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
