The Compassion of a Father
Psalm 103:13,14 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. (ESV)
So, the other night we had a good friend over for dinner. His son and daughter-in-law were expecting a child. But in the middle of the meal, he received a devastating phone call from his wife.
I couldn’t hear what was being said, but the moment I saw his face change, I knew what had happened. His daughter-in-law had miscarried; the child was lost.
The expression on his face in that moment was a reflection of what was going on in his heart. It was the compassion of a father, a dad, for his children, for the pain and loss that they were experiencing.
And as sad as that moment was, that’s exactly how it was meant to play out. The compassion of a father’s heart is real – very real.
Psalm 103:13,14 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. (ESV)
How easy is it amidst the rough and tumble of life – the rough and tumble of your life – to lose sight of the reality of the compassion of God for you? In His great and mighty Father heart, He yearns for you, He aches for you. He feels every hurt that you feel as though it were His own … even when that hurt is the result of your own mistakes. For he knows your frame; he remembers that you’re dust.
So when you’re hurting, when you’re aching, when you’re in the midst of suffering a devastating loss, remember … God’s love for you, the compassion in His Father heart for you, isn’t a mere theory lesson.
It’s real. Very real.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
