The Last Straw

Isaiah 41:9-10 You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but a lot of the time, life just isn’t fair. Sure you have. There have been times when you’ve suffered for doing the right thing, whilst those who did the wrong thing seemed to be prospering.

You’ve worked hard for something, only to have the prize snatched away from under your nose. You’ve been in places where you start thinking to yourself: You know, if just one more thing goes wrong in my life, I don’t think I’ll be able to cope.

Things have been so tough, people have been so difficult, everything is just crowding in around you, pressing in from every side and honestly, you’re just sitting there waiting for that last straw that’s going to break the camel’s back, to drop.

You’re not alone. We all end up in that place sometime in our lives. And believe it or not that time, that place of the last straw, is one of the greatest opportunities that God will ever hand you.

So please, allow me to shine a precious light into that dark place, through something that God has to say to you today:

You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:9-10)

I remember sitting in that dark place, a good many years now. They were desperate times for. Times of tears, of loss, of not knowing how I was going to make it through today, let alone being able to look forward to tomorrow.

I remember that inky black darkness and that pain as though it were yesterday. And yet, I look back on it with a peculiar fondness. Because during those dark days, Jesus came to meet me. I remember sitting on my own, in a chair in the corner of the lounge, reading my Bible, weeping, praying.

Then I came across that verse in Isaiah and God spoke directly to me through it. Back then I didn’t know that that’s just what He does through His Word. It startled me.

But from that moment on, a light went on. The Light of the World. Jesus stepped into my heart in that place and He has never, ever left me. It was the greatest opportunity that God would ever hand me, that dark place of the last straw.

The opportunity to know Jesus.

And that opportunity is available to you, here and now. God is with you, don’t be afraid for He is your God. He will strengthen you, He will help you and He will uphold you with His victorious right hand!

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
