The Spring that Never Runs Dry
Isaiah 58:11 The Lord will always lead you and satisfy your needs in dry lands. He will give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring that never goes dry.
How often have you been in a situation and prayed, “Lord, get me out of here” … and all you get is … dead silence? Nothing. Okay, so now what? What comes next, God?
We all need replenishing. Sure, we can go without fluids for a short time but pretty soon, if we don’t drink some water, we’ll stop functioning and in just a few days we’ll perish. We can go a lot longer without food, but eventually the outcome’s the same.
And that truth is even more true, if I can put it that way, when you’re in a desert, in what the Bible refers to as “dry lands”. The question is, when everything around you is dry – bone dry – and when there’s not a morsel of food anywhere to strengthen you … where do you get that replenishment from?
Isaiah 58:11 The Lord will always lead you and satisfy your needs in dry lands. He will give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring that never goes dry.
We’d like to think that by believing in God, He’d wave a magic wand and whisk us out of that dry place and yes … sometimes (it seems on all too rare occasions) He does just that. But more often, He does something much better.
He takes the opportunity to lead us through those dry lands. He’s right there with us and if only we’d turn to Him, we’d discover that He’ll satisfy all our needs: That He’ll strengthen our bones: That a spring will well up inside us … one that never runs dry, because the Spirit of God never runs dry.
And that’s simply the most exquisite blessing that God can pour out on us in that place.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
