To Cope … or to Conquer?
Romans 8:35,37 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (ESV)
With all that’s been going on in the world, not to mention the normal day-to-day stuff that life dishes up, many are only just getting by, struggling to cope. But what if life is about more than just getting by, more than just coping?
I have absolutely no idea what’s going on in your life at the moment – the good, the bad and the downright ugly. But you do. And God does. And you can be certain that the devil does too, as he seeks to exploit your weaknesses to draw you away from God and bring you down.
And when you’re struggling, when the devil’s playing merry hell with your emotions, it does indeed feel as though God is drifting farther and farther away from you.
But if you ever find yourself in that place, then it’s time for a completely different way of looking at your predicament because feelings are fickle, often completely divorced from objective reality. And the objective reality of your situation is this:
Romans 8:35,37 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (ESV)
God’s love is so incredibly powerful, so deep, so strong, so faithful that nothing – nothing – can separate you from the love of Christ. Not tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword. Nothing!
And because of that great love, He wants you to conquer your emotions, your predicament – whatever it is that ails or afflicts you – not merely to cope. In fact, the objective reality is that you are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
