Unwelcome Interruptions

John 16:33 I have told you these things so that you can have peace in me. In this world you will have troubles. But be brave! I have defeated the world!

Adversity is something that we can all do without, in our opinion. But from God’s perspective, adversity has a special place in our lives; in our relationship with Him. That’s why we need to get this adversity thing right in our lives.

So, everything’s chugging along fine when all of a sudden a curveball from left field strikes you right in the solar plexus. One minute everything was fine. The next minute you’re lying on your back in agony, gasping for air.

Have you ever noticed how things come at you so unexpectedly; things that’ll rob you of your peace and your joy. In an instant, your day is in ruins.

Sometimes, we come out punching. Other times we want to collapse in a heap, or give up, or blame someone, or do something stupid that we know we’re going to regret.

And so we allow that unexpected curved ball to ruin our lives. What makes it even worse is that we just didn’t expect it.

Just before Jesus was about to be crucified, amidst the assassination plot, the turmoil, the fear, He said this to His disciples:

John 16:33
I have told you these things so that you can have peace in me. In this world you will have troubles. But be brave! I have defeated the world!

Don’t be surprised when trouble comes your way. It happened to Jesus. It’s going to happen to you. Expect trouble, because it’s coming.

But in the middle of that, know this: Jesus, your Jesus, He’s defeated all the troubles in this world. So be brave. Don’t let trouble surprise you. And when it comes, know that your Saviour has already won all the battles. Indeed He’s won the war.

I have told you these things so that you can have peace in me.

Jesus.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
