Who is God?
John 14:6,7 Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father too. But now you know the Father. You have seen him.”
Well, today, I’d like to start off with a warning. If you’ve made for yourself a nice, safe, soft, cuddly version of who you’d like God to be, and you don’t want me to upset that safe imposter, stop watching/stop listening, right now.
God is so profoundly different to anyone or anything that this world has to offer. “His ways are so different to our ways” probably explains why you hear so many stupid things said in the name of God, really. Oh, God wouldn’t mind abortion. God doesn’t have a problem with same-sex marriage. God doesn’t care if … and on and on it goes.
Whenever I hear people say stuff like that, I think to myself … Are we talking about the same God? Have you read the Bible? Do you even know who the God of the Bible is?
Of course the answer, invariably, is NO.
The easiest thing in the world is to ignore the Word of God and to build up your own image of who God is and what He might say in your opinion. Try doing that with your wife or your husband, try ignoring them and pretend instead that they are who you’d like them to be, and let me know how well that works for you.
Listen up, you can’t put words into God’s mouth. You can’t remake Him in your image. And in fact, the only way to get to know this God is to read His story for yourself … and run into this man called Jesus. The Jesus of the Bible.
John 14:6,7 Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father too. But now you know the Father. You have seen him.”
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
