You Don’t Have to Go it Alone
Luke 11:11-13 Do any of you have a son? What would you do if your son asked you for a fish? Would any father give him a snake? Or, if he asked for an egg, would you give him a scorpion? Of course not! Even you who are bad know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father knows how to give the Holy Spirit to the people who ask him.”
Anyone who’s set their heart like flint to follow hard after Jesus, wherever He may lead, whatever it may cost, knows that it can be, well, a lonely journey some days. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to go it alone!
Jesus was, and still is, a powerful, emphatic teacher. I mean, He really knows how to drive a point home. Take this for instance:
Luke 11:9,10So I tell you, continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them.
Boom! You can’t miss that. But even those words weren’t enough. He wanted to bring things much, much … much closer to home. So he chose an example to which we could all relate.
His point? God loves you so much that He doesn’t want you to go it alone on this rocky road called life. He wants you to ask, search, knock every day. And like any good father, He will give you the very best of the best – His Holy Spirit. His very Presence in you.
Jesus is powerfully, emphatically making the point here, that you don’t have to go it alone. Boom!
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
