You’re Not Defined by Failure
Joshua 5:9 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “You were slaves in Egypt, and this made you ashamed. But today I have taken away that shame.” So Joshua named that place Gilgal. And that place is still named Gilgal today.
One of the most important, the most profound, the most fundamental influences in our lives is how we see ourselves. And how we see ourselves, isn’t always that healthy.
We’ve all had failures in our past and sadly, some people allow their sense of shame over those failures to define them. And that’s a mindset that ruins your today and robs you of your tomorrows. But here’s some powerfully good news.
Before Israel passed into the Promised Land, they’d spent 430 years as slaves in captivity in Egypt and then another 40 years wandering through the wilderness. By any measure they were a pretty spectacular failure. At least that’s how they saw themselves.
But it’s not how God saw them, because this motley group of failures were, in fact, His chosen people. And God knew that before they could take hold of the Promised Land battle by battle, He would have to change their mindset.
So at a place called Gilgal, He performed a mighty miracle.
Joshua 5:9 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “You were slaves in Egypt, and this made you ashamed. But today I have taken away that shame.” So Joshua named that place Gilgal. And that place is still named Gilgal today.
Did you pick the miracle? He took away their shame.
He knew that they would never be able to take hold of the Promised Land, with their hearts filled with shame. He knows that about you and me too. So today, I implore you, hear His Word. Receive His Word into your heart.
You are not your past. You are not your failures. Whatever hold your past has over you, listen again to what God is saying to you:
… today I have taken away that shame.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Praise God. This was my experience many years ago. He removed my shame and my sin as far as the east is from the west. All glory to my God in Jesus Christ.

A very good scripture and it does make sense. Our past or how others make us feel.
