Give the Lord a Chance
Psalm 34:6-9 As a poor, helpless man I prayed to the LORD, and he heard me. He saved me from all my troubles. The LORD’s angel builds a camp around his followers, and he protects them. Give the LORD a chance to show you how good he is. Great blessings belong to those who depend on him!
Imagine that you’re digging for diamonds. Month after month of backbreaking, soul-destroying work for no result. Zip. Nada. So, one day you decide to give up and walk away. But unbeknown to you, you were just inches away from striking the motherload.
Nice parable, you might be thinking to yourself, but I don’t see myself ever digging for diamonds, or opals, or rubies, or gold. That’s just not my thing. Fair enough.
But how often do we find ourselves in a difficult spot – maybe a dreadful boss at work, an uncomfortable situation in a relationship, a financial squeeze, whatever it happens to be – and we ask God, we ask Him, we ask Him, on and on, with no result? Zip. Nada.
So, one day you give up and just walk away. But here, once more, is a word of experience from King David of Israel:
Psalm 34:6-8 As a poor, helpless man I prayed to the LORD, and he heard me. He saved me from all my troubles. The LORD’s angel builds a camp around his followers, and he protects them. Give the LORD a chance to show you how good he is. Great blessings belong to those who depend on him!
God is so often already working behind the scenes, even before we ask for His help. His angels are building an encampment around you to protect you. That’s the truth! And David’s encouragement to you and me in that moment when every fibre of our being wants to give up and walk away?
Give the LORD a chance to show you how good he is. Great blessings belong to those who depend on him!
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
