Satan’s Accusation
Job 1:10-12 You always protect Job, his family, and everything he has. You have blessed him and made him successful in everything he does … But if you were to destroy everything he has, I promise you that he would curse you to your face.” The LORD said to Satan, “All right, do whatever you want with anything that he has, but don’t hurt Job himself.” Then Satan left the meeting.
Satan is referred to in God’s Word as both a deceiver and an accuser. But have you ever thought of him accusing God of something? Well, back in Job’s day, that’s exactly what he did!
So what did Satan accuse God of doing? Well, here it is – Satan talking directly to God:
Job 1:10-12 You always protect Job, his family, and everything he has. You have blessed him and made him successful in everything he does … But if you were to destroy everything he has, I promise you that he would curse you to your face.” The LORD said to Satan, “All right, do whatever you want with anything that he has, but don’t hurt Job himself.” Then Satan left the meeting.
What did Satan accuse God of doing? Of protecting and blessing Job, of making him successful in everything he does. In fact, literally, Satan refers to God’s impenetrable hedge of protection around Job.
I always think that the most important question to ask of any Scripture is this: What does it tell me about God? Here, what it tells us, is that God is a God who protects us. In fact, yesterday we saw that God’s angels put an encampment of protection around His people.
Sure, every now and then God will lift that protection to test our faith as He did here with Job. But remember how Jesus taught His disciples to pray? Lead me not into temptation. Keep me from evil.
That’s something I pray every day. Not that God would make me strong enough to defeat the devil, but that God would keep him from me, period.
May God protect you and bless you.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
