There is But One Way
1 Timothy 2:5,6 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. (ESV)
Why is society so down on Christianity these days? What is it that makes the Good News of Jesus so deeply offensive to so many people? Persecution, it seems, is on the rise. Why?
A little while back, I attended a small community Bible study group where different people came from different traditions and perspectives. Thatās to be expected.
There was one man there who firmly believed that the Bible was just one signpost to God among many. Heād been investing in Buddhism, and the Koran. Heād diligently been investigating all sorts of different ways, spending hundreds of dollars on CDs from gurus and so on.
We were studying the Gospel of John at the time and his approach was to allegorise it, to see it as a metaphor. Jesus, after all, couldnāt possibly have turned water into wine. And that bit where He allegedly says, āI am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.ā ā¦ well, obviously whoever wrote that down got it wrong. There are many ways to God according to this man. But thatās not an option that God leaves open.
1 Timothy 2:5,6 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. (ESV)
Just because we deny a truth doesnāt make it any less true. Itās the sacrifice of Jesus on that Cross that pays for your sin and mine, His death and resurrection that flings the door wide open to a relationship with God for eternity. There is but one way. Jesus. Thatās the truth.
And thatās Godās Word. Fresh ā¦ for you ā¦ today.
